Disney+ has officially announced its first-ever Korean-Japanese co-production, the romantic comedy series Merry Berry Love. The reveal took place during the 2025 Disney+ Originals Preview event in Hong Kong, where fans got a first look at this cross-cultural love story starring South Korea’s Ji Chang-wook and Japan’s Mio Imada.

Merry Berry Love follows the story of a Korean fashion designer, played by Ji Chang-wook, who experiences a major career setback and decides to escape the fast-paced city life by moving to a peaceful Japanese island. There, he meets a kind-hearted local woman, portrayed by Mio Imada, who runs a berry farm. As they spend time together, their connection deepens, and a sweet, cross-border romance blossoms amidst the beauty of nature and simplicity.
The drama combines themes of healing, personal rediscovery, and love that transcends language and culture. Ji Chang-wook’s portrayal of a man searching for purpose after failure contrasts beautifully with Mio Imada’s grounded and hopeful character. Their chemistry is already being praised by early viewers who saw the series teaser at the Disney+ event.
This series is directed by Kim Soo-jung and co-produced by CJ ENM and Nippon TV. It marks a major milestone for Disney+, as it expands its presence in the Asian entertainment industry with an emphasis on heartfelt and visually stunning storytelling. Filming took place in both Korea and Japan to authentically capture the emotional and cultural tone of the story.
Merry Berry Love will premiere globally on Disney+ in 2026. With its beautiful island setting, emotional storyline, and fresh international collaboration, the drama is expected to become one of the most anticipated romantic comedies of the year. Fans of both K-dramas and J-dramas can look forward to a charming love story that celebrates the beauty of connection beyond borders.
